The programme provides a focused overview of the essential disciplines that underpin safe, compliant and efficient industrial operations. From UKCA Ex compliance and fire protection to machinery safety, automation, process safety and the systems that support training, documentation and organisational behaviour, participants gain a clear foundation for excellence in modern safety management.

Same Script, Different Cultures: Why Safety Never Plays Out the Same Way
David Atkinson - Director of Production Safety - EMEA / APAC of Walt Disney Company
Across industries, we often assume that safety systems work the same everywhere, but cultural differences can completely change how risks are understood, communicated, and controlled. Drawing from real lessons in global film production, this session explores why the same safety expectations can lead to very different outcomes when culture shifts. Participants will learn how to recognise cultural blind spots, adapt communication styles, and build trust across diverse teams to strengthen safety performance in any environment. The underlying theme will be that no matter the industry, the same challenges are faced.

The role of a safety leader: Compliance to Collaboration
Chris Hall - Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environment Director of Ferrovial
Leadership today calls for empathy, courage, and kindness. It’s about building trust, supporting teams, and making tough decisions with care. Focussing on health and safety compliance is no longer enough. We face more complex challenges than ever, not just in the work that we deliver, but in the responsibility, we carry for the wellbeing of our people. Developing health and safety leadership programmes where you focus on collaboration is about your people, their growth, their impact, and their leadership journey. Compliance will only get you so far. Collaborative leaders create psychologically safe environments. Chris will share lived experiences of working with leaders to create environments that ensure safety, promote wellbeing, and empower employees.

Applying the OODA Loop in Machine Safety
Conrad Slater, Safety Consultant and International Trainer at Schmersal
The delegates will learn to use or apply the OODA Loop for risk and decision making and as a fast and practical method of thinking.
The OODA Loop is a continuous cycle of decision making, originally developed by John Boyd, a Colonel in the USAF.
By the end of the presentation the delegates will be able to use the Loop on the shop floor, in maintenance and during abnormal situations with the focus not being based on theory.
The key take aways are:
- Understanding the process
- Recognise how human decision affects machine safety
- Apply the “Loop” in real time and not just assessments and investigations
- See safety as a continuous thinking process and not a static set of stages.
