How the City of Ghent digitized 100,000 Invoices – and took everyone along

Alexander Geldhof, Process Manager & Evy Devriese, Adjunct Director of Stad Gent and Marc van Vlierberghe, SAP Business Analist of District09

The City of Ghent processes over 100,000 invoices a year – and now 90% are digital via Peppol. From police to cultural institutions, Ghent made e-invoicing mandatory for all suppliers, from €0 upwards.

Originally planned in three phases, they boldly merged two to accelerate. While some suppliers needed time to adapt, Ghent’s clear leadership and support ensured that even the smallest vendors – including hairdressers serving care centers – successfully made the transition. This wasn’t automation for its own sake. Ghent digitized to:

  • Boost efficiency
  • Speed up payments
  • Cut processing costs
  • Free people for meaningful, futureproof work
  • Push all suppliers and customers towards a lead in digitalization

All inbound invoices are now handled without paper or manual steps.

Get ready to be inspired:

  • A bold blueprint – How Ghent became one of Belgium’s most advanced e-invoicing cities.
  • Touchless processing – Real automation in action.
  • Lead the change – Inspire your team with lessons from the front line of digital transformation.

5-corner model: from concept to the prevailing CTC model?

Nazar Paradivsky, Vice Chair of Public Policy & Compliance WG of GENA

As tax authorities worldwide roll out different CTC (Continuous Transaction Controls) models, the global e-invoicing landscape grows more fragmented — risking inefficiencies, especially within the EU Single Market.

The Peppol-developed 5-corner model, now endorsed by organisations such as GENA, the OECD, and multiple governments, offers a harmonised framework to bring clarity and consistency. If you’ve read between the lines of the EU’s ViDA proposal, you’ll recognise the 5-corner model as its foundation for both e-invoicing and Digital Reporting Requirements (DRR).

🔍 Discover how the 5-corner model is shaping:

  • Belgium’s national e-invoicing approach
  • EU-wide compliance under ViDA
  • Global interoperability strategies

This session is your chance to get ahead of one of the most influential frameworks in the future of tax and finance. Don’t wait to play catch-up — understand what’s coming and prepare now.

Europe’s e-Invoicing mix: PDP, Sdl, KseF & more.

Christophe Vanhouten, Country Manager Belgium, Banqup

France, Italy, and Poland are all rolling out e-invoicing systems, each with its own approach. France leverages Partner Dematerialization Platforms (PDPs) as intermediaries, Italy uses the centralized Sistema di Interscambio (SdI) hub, and Poland is introducing the Krajowy System e-Faktur (KSeF) as its mandatory platform. While Peppol remains a recognized global standard, these countries have opted to implement their own national systems—either integrated with or operating alongside Peppol.

In this session, we’ll explore these different models in more detail and highlight why partnering with a global e-invoicing provider is essential.
